I can happily say that since playing a show we presented back in January of this year, The Spooks, not ones to rest on their laurels, have only crafted an even more full, vibrant sound. The Spooks played a show for us at Rubber Gloves with Wild Harem, so impressive was the bands ability to drink like sailors and yet when they were on stage they played like an act well beyond their years. The band is back with this swinging-fuzztoned hit straight out of Link Wray’s dreams, a band absolutely at the top of their brand of sound. Certainly you’ll be looking forward to their future LP on Trig Club–certainly you’ll be looking forward to their show with Fergus & Geronimo and Uptown Bums at Rubber Gloves on August 4th.

We are very proud to premiere the debut record from Denton’s own Final Club; a band clutched in the cradle of punk and shoegaze and swaddled in a cannibis leaf. In the middle of prepping for this record release, the band has been filling out local Denton cut-n-shoots and sold out Dan’s Silverleaf before they even played a note. Two nights later they played a show we presented with The Spooks and Wild Harem–it was a devil of an experience. The band creates a pulsating nu-gaze into DIY-punk-party-ethics with a love for the guitar-driven music of the early 90s. Weekly Tape Deck very happily presents to you Final Club’s debut record, Hot Gaze. Get ‘em one at a time or download in it’s entirety at the bottom.
Final Club – Ruded
Final Club – Butts and Ash
Final Club – A Tragic World
Final Club – Botching The Blondes
Final Club – Runaway Bay
Final Club – Wizard Wells

Tonight at Rubber Gloves in Denton, and it’s free (for most). On the last few stops of their ep release tour, The Spooks have joined with Wild Harem and will meet up with “new dudes” Final Club while here. Just sayin, after selling out their very first show and a few sneak peeks at their upcoming (6 track) ep, Final Club is a great addition to an already burgeoning Denton scene. If you can’t make the show tonight, The Spooks ep can be purchased through email (spooksquares@gmail.com and they’ll link you up to paypal). See you there.
The Spooks – Featherleather
Wild Harem – Talurah Tom Tom

About a week ago The Spooks started their ep release tour and will soon be making their way through (appropriately) Denton. These guys got at us earlier with a couple of garage gems and have just unleashed another-”Featherleather”. Basically the dark/dank aesthetic of it shows you why people call them The Spooks. Look for The Sea Monster ep in merch booths or here on paypal. The Spooks will be stopping at Rubber Gloves on Wednesday with Wild Harem and Final Club (Denton’s latest/greatest). Check their calendar for the rest of their dates on their way back to Philly.

Wild Harem has almost completely finished their next full-length and have placed four new songs on their Myspace, one of them you heard here first. But they have nonetheless sent a fifth to us! And we are more than happy to share this fantastic young, hairful band with you. With a guitar lick that could swoon a vestal nun, this new song “Talurah Tom Tom” hits with their distinct full-toned, lazy vocals that literally bounce from the speakers. If you happen to be in the Dallas area, the band is playing at J & J’s in Denton on December 11th. Get some pizza, some Schlitz and some tunes.

Smoothly skating into our 5th episode of WTD radio (courtesy of the rad fellows at Indie-Verse) I put together a quick list of everything that I’ve been listening to for the past week. New tracks from Wild Harem and Harlem (both out of Austin, I might add), Wetdog, and Americans in France. For good measure I’ve peppered in some classic favorites of mine. I know you’re probably missing the silky smooth linguistics of Ryan, but he will be back next week. I promise. To get thrown into our regular rotation send all tracks to weeklytapedeck@gmail.com and we’ll give it a listen. Click HERE to listen. Hit the jump for mp3s and tracklist.

While the name might call to mind certain short-lived ATL side projects, The Spooks (from PA) may be geographically distant but more relative than not in sound and swagger. For now The Spooks have only finished recording the fermented “Kombucha” and blues-y “Mytime” but are on the heels of an EP set to release in the coming weeks. Also, these guys are going to be touring our area early next year with some of our other recent digs (and Austin natives), Wild Harem.

My friend Austin (person) who always has my musical ear, sent over a demo from the band Wild Harem out of Austin (the city) which currently has me flabbergasted. The band was formerly known as Some Others and is relatively green in the Austin music scene. I actually happened upon them at a Halloween house show they played with Denton garage greats Uptown Bums and was impressed by the cramped living room performance complete with a dangling chandelier over the lead singers head. Wild Harem has 6 songs up on their myspace but this “Golden Man” demo below is as fresh as Thanksgiving pumpkin pie with a chorus that’s undeniably as delicious; fortunately for you, WTD is the only place you will find it.
