Easily one of the “Most Rad Cassette Release of 2k9″, Pill Wonder’s Jungle/Surf was released cassette-style via the (great) Wild Animal Kingdom. Now, thanks to Underwater Peoples, yr analog PW collection can be completed as they are releasing this gem on 12″ vinyl (only UP’s 2nd LP release). Rather than tell you how “jungle-y” or “surf-y” this sounds, I’ll leave things to cleverly crafty wordsmith Sawyer Carter Jacobs…. (Pre-Order)

Dana Jewell just sent over this heartbreaking Townes Van Zandt cover of “If I Needed You” by Marie Landau. Unfortunately, it seems that Mr. Jewell has ended his recording career and has converted his myspace to hers. Regardless, there are still magical things happening in the Wild Animal Kingdom.

Complimentary:
Dana also sent over what could be his swan song. Really hoping that this is a Bret Favre type of retirement.
Also:
Found this Townes video that offers his explanation of the particular track. Even though I think it was a bit more than “cough syrup”.

On top of the slew of rad Wild Animal Kingdom releases, Dana has just announced that they will be releasing the new full length from 60 Watt Kid in cassette tape form. Already tossed yr tape player? It’s cool because Absolutely Kosher will also be releasing We Come From The Bright Side on vinyl and CD formats. Actually my first time listening to 60WK and I’m getting sudden urges of building a huge fire in tribal ritualistic fashion (pre 1492). Listen to “2012″ and you can tell that these guys are almost welcoming the end of the Mayan Calendar. Primitive nature aside, the spazzed out glitches and crisp drumming are more precise than advanced calculus equations. Both labels will be releasing their preferred medium on Oct 20th and are both available for pre order.

Dana Jewell, at the throne of the Wild Animal Kingdom, has lit my inbox up with several shiny gems. First of all, “This Land pt. 3″, a new track forming a trilogy to Liam the Younger’s “This Land pts. 1&2″ which follows the same life on the run plain. As well as the Richman soaked “Love’s Bow/Arrow”. If you didn’t already know, WAK has an amazing cassette club which puts hot tracks on yr doorstep for 18 bucks a year. From what I’ve heard, they will be featuring some of our favorite artists (teaser). Stop by WAK to subscribe and check out some of their other releases. Also, Chocolate Bobka has those Liam the Younger albums up at his house in full along with a live recording of Dana at the Underwater Peoples Showcase.

While making my internet rounds the other day, I happened to see our Hold Yr Breath mixtape pinned up at one of our favorite record label’s blogs. Underwater Peoples, that is. It was also good to see that the mix was in good company with a variety of other mixes from some of my favorite music watering holes. One of these mixes that particularly caught my eye was that of the Wild Animal Kingdom. Fathering many of the artists that are now on Underwater Peeps from Julian Lynch to Pill Wonder, and it doesn’t stop there. On cassette, Wild Animal Kingdom’s second compilation features a heavenly dish of those chill laid-back tunes that are making everyone’s summer more enjoyable. Head over to their site, check out the catalogue, and order what you fancy. The 2nd comp is set for a FREE download and here are a couple tracks that have stood the test of my rewind button.
Karl Blau – I Hold You High
Fluffy Lumbers – Cruisers
