weekly mixtape #4

weekly-tapemix-3-no-overlay

Normally I track the weekly mixtape with newer, “more current”, songs but I had to throw in an old N.W.A. classic to express my frustration for the speeding ticket I got on the way home today.  You got it, Fu** tha Police!  People have places to go, and I guess traffic patrol helps to make you late for whatever that place may be.  Other than that, there have been some great releases this past week that you all might enjoy (including a sweet mashup from The Hood Internet).  The fourth installment of the weekly mixtape begins now….

N.W.A. – Fuck Tha Police
Talking Heads vs Apparat – Psycho Killer
Brakes – Worry About It Later
Lady of the Sunshine – White Rose Parade
Jeremy Enigk – Restart
Joey Casio – Share the Cup
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Zero
Higamos Hogamos – Major Blitzkreig
Cryptacize – Blue Tears
Viva Voce – Devotion
Mika Miko – I Got A Lot (New New New)
Pains of Being Pure at Heart – Contender
Passion Pit – Moth’s Wings
Japandroids – Sovereignty
Television Personalities – Look Back In Anger

viva voce//devotion

vivavoce

New track from Portland folk/shoegazers (can the two of these even be mentioned in the same sentence?) Viva Voce.  If you like this tune, they will be releasing a set of singles via EMusic sometime tomorrow.  This album is heavily recommended and soon to appear on our list of “constant rewinds”.  “Devotion”’s fuzzed out rock patterns bring to mind 90’s act Swervedriver and can be found HERE or downloaded on their official websiteRose City will be available May 26th on Barsuk Records.  Heavily Recommended!

Elsewhere in Portland:

Another “rock super group” in the making.  Including Danny Seim (Menomena), Dave Allen (Gang of Four), and John Askew (Tracker) we have Faux Hoax/myspace (pronounced “Folks”).  Their EP, Your Friends Will Carry You Home, is available for preorder through Polyvinyl (shipping on May 8th) and is limited to 1000 copies.  Their tunes can be heard on Muxtape.  By the way, I’ve spent hours on the Muxtape site, tons of great remixes to check out.
