Easily one of the “Most Rad Cassette Release of 2k9″, Pill Wonder’s Jungle/Surf was released cassette-style via the (great) Wild Animal Kingdom. Now, thanks to Underwater Peoples, yr analog PW collection can be completed as they are releasing this gem on 12″ vinyl (only UP’s 2nd LP release). Rather than tell you how “jungle-y” or “surf-y” this sounds, I’ll leave things to cleverly crafty wordsmith Sawyer Carter Jacobs…. (Pre-Order)

It’s been a while since I’ve lost sleep in anticipation of Christmas Day goodies. As a kid, thoughts of the Transformers Dinobots and Legos were usually the culprit. This year: The Underwater Peoples Winter Review. Seriously, I ran to the computer and downloaded this before I even took a glimpse at any wrapped boxes. After some quality headphone time, we would like to share this awesome compilation over airwaves (um, internet airwaves) from cover to cover. Since our episodes are 16 tracks long (the comp being only 15), we thought it fitting to lead off with MJ’s “Human Nature”. Head to Indie-Verse for the broadcast and, when you’re done, download the entire thing free (for a limited time) at Chocolate Bobka’s.

Posted earlier today, Sawyer from Underwater Peoples announced (amongst a crossfire of motorcycles in the Mekong Delta) the release of their Winter Review via McG on his “fucking awesome blog”, Chocolate Bobka. Much like their comp released on BxF this will be a free download for a short period of time. What an awesome gift for all of us to unwrap this Christmas Day.

Underwater Peoples will soon be releasing their first LP and I’m glad to see that it will be from Alex Bleeker and the Freaks. Once again, Sawyer has added some sexy words and if you are curious about how Bleeker sounds it’s “..as genuine and classic as an adolescent’s Playboy collection or a fat, bald man in a Red Corvette.” Really like how Bleeker looks like a don in the cover. Limited to 1000 copies, pre-order now.

The incredibly dapper fellows from Family Portrait and other label pals Andrew Cedermark have set out together and created a 7″ split to drop on the brilliant Underwater Peoples label. As you may already know, we’ve become quite fond of the FP bunch and Brody’s near Freudian ability to channel the unconscious and now we’re given an opportunity to become more familiar with Cedermark’s (formerly of Titus Andronicus) works. Each of the 4 tracks on this EP play off of each other effortlessly and is well worth the $7 + S&H. Pre-orders are available now.

While I’m on things Wild Animal Kingdom, Dana has also sent over some new tracks from the upcoming Pill Wonder Jungle/Surf tape. Not only will this see release on WAK, but Underwater Peoples will be releasing this on 12″. These tracks are so humid, your living room will turn into a sauna. In about ten seconds. If you haven’t heard PW’s other jams, dude at Friendship Bracelet has what you need. The cassette pre-order is up and running. Sit tight for the vinyls.

Dana Jewell, at the throne of the Wild Animal Kingdom, has lit my inbox up with several shiny gems. First of all, “This Land pt. 3″, a new track forming a trilogy to Liam the Younger’s “This Land pts. 1&2″ which follows the same life on the run plain. As well as the Richman soaked “Love’s Bow/Arrow”. If you didn’t already know, WAK has an amazing cassette club which puts hot tracks on yr doorstep for 18 bucks a year. From what I’ve heard, they will be featuring some of our favorite artists (teaser). Stop by WAK to subscribe and check out some of their other releases. Also, Chocolate Bobka has those Liam the Younger albums up at his house in full along with a live recording of Dana at the Underwater Peoples Showcase.

Sawyer Carter Jacobs puts together one mean promo package. Contents: the a/b sides to Frat Dad’s upcoming 7″ and Brendon Mitchell’s 4th grade homework assignment (complete with a variety of drawings). I could try to encapsulate their sound in my own words, but Sawyer’s verse is righteous as fuck. “Frat Dad is like going over Niagara Falls in a barrel, then landing in a Middle School Cafeteria… on Mexican Pizza Day. They’re a couple of bad ass, good for nothing, down low, mother fucks. They don’t give a shit.” Check our previous dig for the b-side and stream the a, “Greg the Nerd”, here. Then, you can head over to the Underwater Peoples site to pre-order this limited release gem. Out September 23rd on clear vinyl and CDR.

A random clip I just found in Julian Lynch’s myspace comments. A video created by Heidi Petty with the wonderful “Banana Jam Pt. 1″ from the Underwater Peoples Comp. This video may be “unofficial” but it sure does ride well.
