Still going strong two weeks into our programming on, the great, Indie-Verse radio and we’ve got another nice lineup of tunes. We’ve got the local scene covered with some tracks from Fergus & Geronimo and The Uptown Bums. Also, my new collective friends from Oxford, MS, Cats Purring, have their fair share of play time. Listen to the show today at 1 PM CST and again on Saturday at the same time. We’ll be in Denton (at Rubber Gloves) tonight for our show with Crystal Antlers, Video and Uptown Bums. Come say hi. Head here for the link to stream. Hit the jump for the tracklisting.

Complete disregard for “safe” listening levels and a stage presence worthy of starting riots, we are more than pleased to have VIDEO on the bill for the upcoming show at RGRS in Denton on Nov. 9th. Harpal just sent over 2 tracks, “Bookstore” being new and set to feature on Play Pinball Records‘ Denton Denton USA compilation. These should get you set for the date. Oh, Crystal Antlers and The Uptown Bums are also gonna be there? Yeah, arrive early and stay late.

After their stop in Austin for Fun Fun Fun Fest, Crystal Antlers will be one in a trifecta of psych and garage that’s taking the stage this coming month (Nov. 9th) at Rubber Gloves in Denton. In support are local Denton acts, The Uptown Bums and VIDEO,who’s stage presence can be felt over international waters. Make sure to get there early, you’re not going to want to miss any of these guys. Huge thanks to jennifer m for her skills on the flyer!

If you’re unaware of the long blood-line of Denton DIYers and their penchant for leaving carpets under puddles of beer and racking up countless neighborhood noise violations, allow me to spread the word. I really don’t even know what cowpunk is or how some bro named “Danger” could coin an apple an orange, but The Uptown Bums hard hitting garage pop demeanor stacks tall and they’ve got the pedigree to prove it. On the tails of their first Shake Your Ass 7″, the Bums have sent over their latest, “Reason To Be Kind”, which will see a track list somewhere in the near future. Also, they will be serving on the same bill as Crystal Antlers and VIDEO in our second presentation at Rubber Gloves on Nov. 9th (fliers to come). Check SYA to purchase the limited 7″ and Play Pinball! for a cassette and forthcoming appearance on the Denton Denton USA! compilation.

Living in Dallas is like living on the surface of the sun. This place is not fit for human habitation. Especially if you’re blue-eyed and pasty-skinned like me. I’ve always found the Fourth of July to be an overrated holiday. There’s a built-in obligation to be outside. I love my country and all, but I want no part of the heat. Even after the sun goes down, beers get warm too fast to provide any relief. Fireworks are exciting, sure. Up north. Here, they’re best viewed on a wall-mounted Samsung while basking in glorious central a/c. I say fuck the fireworks. Go to a show.

Teenage Cool Kids / Angry Businessmen / Fungi Girls @ Rubber Gloves
Three of Denton’s finest. Teenage Cool Kids are celebrating their Foreign Lands record release. Angry Businessmen are apparently reuniting. Fungi Girls are… rad.

INDENTONDANCE DAY: Neon Indian / many others… @ Hailey’s
Diverse lineup of DJs and bands. Doors at 6pm. Free until 9pm. They say, “you got yer rap, yer electronic, yer foot stompin music, yer chiptunes, and yer sikk djs.” Alan Palomo aka VEGA aka Ghosthustler is making his live debut as Neon Indian. Dude gets better with every name change. If that’s not enough, they’ll be “giving away free POP POP SNAPPERS and POP ICE POPSICLES all night!”
Western Giants / Touching Tongues / Manned Missiles / Violent Still Life @ The Cavern
All local bands. My esteemed colleague Nate has blabbed about his love of Western Giants. I share his love. The other bands on the bill are new to me, but based on their MySpace pages, I’m intrigued enough to get there early.
4th of July Blowout: Riverboat Gamblers / Red City Radio / Bad Sports / The Uptown Bums @ Rubber Gloves
Punk seems to be the uniting thread for this lineup. Riverboat Gamblers have notoriously riotous live shows. Another chance to catch Bad Sports, who Nic has photographed and spoken kindly of.
