If Weekly Tape Deck had a Best New Music this Dead Gaze track would hit a homerun…or something like that. We’ve been loving on this man’s music since he blinded us last year, and surely you can see that his talents have marinated and expanded. This song a bit less harsh sounding than the early and tenderly mixed to accentuate what Dead Gaze does best: honest, loud and beautiful melodies. This song is destined to be on a split with Gray Things through Clan Destine. Enjoy it compressed and clipping now. (P.S. Ive said it enough already but Dead Gaze is another band playing our SXSW musical orgy)

Brand new Pure Ecstasy track from their forthcoming 7″ coming out on Acephale Records was debuted earlier this week on GvsB (and a live recording prior to that from Yours Truly). I’ll be catching them live for the first time TONIGHT during our NX35 stage at Haley’s and again during multiple SXSW shows (and I won’t get tired of em!). Pre-order one of these “limited to 500″ collectibles today (or perhaps they’ll have some at the show tonight?).

So we now complete the “trifecta” having a video, flyer and a sick compilation of some of the bands playing our showcase. Kudos to Andy from Woven Bones for the flyer and Ian at Friendship Bracelet for putting these comps together (which, by the way, will be handed out physically to the early arrivals). Not that our party is “RSVP required”, but if you’d like to let us know you’re coming feel free to add your name to the list! Click the jump for links to download and a complete tracklist.

Fergus & Geronimo will be playing both our NX35 showcase and our SXSW party and has a tasty morsel for all who will be attending in the form of a new song. “Turning Blue” is late-70s sunny power-pop majesty; this is by far the most merry song the Denton band have released and has a picture-perfect place setting in the easy-riding Texas Spring we’re headed towards.

Just in time for Spring, Weed Diamond’s latest, “Snowmelt”, is set as the a-side for 7″ single release. Since it’s over the top good, it would only make sense for our friends at Transparent to press this gem. With “Oklahoma” on the flip, these two sunny pop tunes are perfect for keeping those icicles off yr eaves. On top of all this, we’ll get to hang with both WD and the Transparent dudes in Austin in the coming weeks. Limited to 300 copies, order now.

If you were listening to our radio steez last week, you might have heard us play some Soft Healer. Just as relaxing as their influences “essential oils, moonlight, and burnt stage” these laid back tunes have been an inviting way to stay in for the night. Also, they’re from Austin so I’d expect to see them at a number of shows during SXSW.

We were fortunate enough to hear Crystal Antlers play “Dead Horses” at funfunfunfest and our very own shindig at RGRS last October, a great bunch of people they are. I knew when I heard “Dead Horses” it would translate well to recording and Im sure its magical on vinyl, if youd like to contribute to the cause, the band is self-releasing a 7-inch with this song and “Little Sister” through their website. You can even download the tracks NOW for free; the band will be making their way through Texas again in a week and a half for SXSW and at the end of March into the great European unknown with a thorough romp through the entire continent.

Stereogum seems to hold the reigns on the market for premiering new tracks, this one is from a band we just added to our SXSW shindig, and another extremely prolific artist, The Fresh & Onlys. The song comes from their new EP that will be out tomorrow on Captured Tracks. The song picks up right where they left off with Grey-Eyed Girls. does anyone else get a Moody Blues vibe from this band? Maybe a lil “Knights In White Satin“?

I wanted to point out another band we have playing the SXSW celebration, Coasting, a dual-lady band out of the BK had a brand new song on a recent compilation by one of the Sensitive Homeboyz collab partners, Friendship Bracelet. Its significant because to-date Coasting hasnt put out a whole lot of material, so each new song is like a present.
