christmas//winter

christmas

Leave it to a band called Christmas to have a track titled “Winter”.  Honestly, words that are associated with anything cold are the last thing that come to mind when listening to this tune.  The guitar licks couldn’t be more beached out and Emily’s vocal delivery is absolutely filled with fire.  Kind of sounds like Dick Dale had a major wipeout in the pipeline and the kids from Ponytail resuscitated him on the shore.  “Winter” was brought to my attention through Insound and their free mp3 of the week thingy but they also have a 4 track 7″ out with Endless Latino (all tracks are a single word I might add).  Purchase here through the K Records store.

weekends//weekends

weeknds

Weekends are probably destined to be the ‘next big thing’ out of the Wham City/Baltimore area with their self-titled debut, Weekends. Here’s to hoping that they don’t get caught up in all of the hype that may or may not come to fruition, but I am definitely expecting a good amount of exposure coming their way. The duo of Brendan Sullivan and Adam Lempel create a sonic soundscape of noise-rock with minimal vocal presence. Likely comparisons come in the form of Ponytail and No Age. Two of my favorites are below. Oh and play it loud!

Weekends – Summer Knights
Weekends – Alligator Feet

Update: Found a cool bit of quotes and more background on these fellas here.
