Aside from the video for their “Moonlighting”, it’s almost been exactly a year since we’ve heard anything new from Navajo Bixby. Like their earlier tracks, “Down Under” is built around sunkissed-loops deeply rooted in 50-60’s beach pop and a walking guitar riff that is dripping with Summer tones. While they have some similarities to the (hate to say) chillwave sound, this duo’s creative approach puts them at the head of the class. What we’ve been getting from these guys are undeniably catchy pop tunes….consistently.

Smoothly skating into our 5th episode of WTD radio (courtesy of the rad fellows at Indie-Verse) I put together a quick list of everything that I’ve been listening to for the past week. New tracks from Wild Harem and Harlem (both out of Austin, I might add), Wetdog, and Americans in France. For good measure I’ve peppered in some classic favorites of mine. I know you’re probably missing the silky smooth linguistics of Ryan, but he will be back next week. I promise. To get thrown into our regular rotation send all tracks to weeklytapedeck@gmail.com and we’ll give it a listen. Click HERE to listen. Hit the jump for mp3s and tracklist.

My friends down-under at Rose Quartz kept me cool to Judd Hower’s attempt to keep Summer alive, Navajo Bixby. “Moonlighting” is over 5 minutes of soothing beach pop and works effortlessly to keep yr senses very busy. The way the track transforms it is almost like two cuts, call em “Moon” and “Lighting”, that seamlessly combine into one another. Judd does have a carousel of genres going on here, but it’s interesting enough to avoid an identity crisis.
