Got a mammoth list of upcoming Mexican Summer releases late last week. On top of a “lost” re-issue (Ramases) and a new Mantles 12″, Jacuzzi Boys will be dropping an as of now untitled 7″ in mid-May. The a-side, “Bricks or Coconuts”, is another jangly garage slice that exploits their sound to fullest.
Jacuzzi Boys – Bricks or Coconuts
and some tracks from those other releases I meantioned…
Ramases – Balloon
Mantles – Lily Never Married

We haven’t written about Campfires in a bit but the adroit young musician has a new Mexican Summer 7-inch with–wait for it….more than 2 songs on it– which I find to be rare. The first a-side on the record has been put up on the Campfires myspace, the second is below. Purchase the 7-inch if only for the stucco-Pollock artwork.

If, like me, you’ve been waiting around for some new Woodsman tunes, I’ve just got word that Collages is now up for digital download at Mexican Summer. Vinyl not quite ready yet, give it a month. They’ve also sent over “Dikembe Mutombo”, which is a big step aside from their usual more tranquil tunes . Yes please.

Thank you Woodsman for putting out free music while everyone is salivating for the release of your upcoming Mexican Summer LP. Makes the time pass less painstakingly. Indoor Days is their complimentary 6 track EP of waaay mellow jams surveying the glens, rivers and mountains of Colorado from a bird’s eye view. Honestly, these guys are one with nature, I mean they don’t call themselves Woodsman for nothing. Indoor Days is available here and if you haven’t already, pre-order Collages here.

December, still, feels like it’s years away but Woodsman have helped smooth things over for the time being. Their Denver friend, Samurai Buck, does his thing here and remixes the first track off their Collages LP which is due out this coming Dec. from Mexican Summer.

Latest from San Fransisco beach-y shoegazers, Young Prisms. Their mp3 purchase has been up on Mexican Summer for the past week or so and now they have opened the pre-order gates for the 12″. Looks like they’ll be blasting up the left coast with other MS dudes (and our favs) Woodsman. Pre-order.

Today marks the third day of constant rain here and, though I’ve been going stir crazy inside, I’ve been in good company. Some more fantastic tunes coming from Denver (heard Monolith was just as rainy) by way of Woodsmen. Strictly headed-out instrumental jams that roll along and, well, just seem to fall in perfectly with this damp weather. “Sunglass” is a new track that is set to release on their upcoming LP, Collages, on one of our favorite new labels, Mexican Summer. The album should be available later in December, but expect a digital purch to drop sometime sooner. In the mean time, download their Humdrum ep for 22 cents.

The guys at Mirror Universe Tapes just sent over two brand new tracks from the ‘multi-genred’ Washed Out. Already hot off the release of a fantastic six track 12″ ep (which sold out with a quickness) on Mexican Summer, both “Luck” and “Belong” are on the listing for his High Times cassette which is available for pre-order. No numbers given, but given the usual limited release nature of cassettes, this should sell out quick. As for the 12″, looks like you’ll have to catch it in stores or settle for the digital purchase.
Washed Out – Belong
Washed Out – Luck

Toronto locals, Little Girls, serve up a rather groovy release on Mexican Summer with Thrills. Post punk, minimalism (self-described) at it’s finest with “Tambourine,” and others on this 12″ release. It’s already sold out though for those of you who want one. Maybe they’ll make it on a full tour soon, but could be relegated to the Northeast for the time being. Really good shit.
