I really hate recycling the “distant yet familiar” oxymoron descriptor. Not that I’ve never used it before, but I think I’ve finally found the perfect application for the term. As the name implies, you can rest assured that A Grave With No Name spares no mysteries. Almost every track on Mountain Debris appears to swim underwater and isn’t concerned with peaking for a breath. We’ve mentioned these dudes a while back and now that Alex has sent us the entire LP, we’ve gotten to spend some time with the full tracklisting. Seriously one of the best albums I’ve listened to this year. Their amazing debut is set to release mid-November via two of our favs, Lefse (US)/No Pain In Pop (UK). “Open Water” and “Sofia” have already been making their way around the blogs, but here’s a new one they’ve let us put up: “Silver”.

Yet another great local artist to sign to one of our favorite record labels. Paul North’s project, Sunnybrook, has just recently joined forces with the great entourage of artists at Lefse. Hints were already being dropped when one of his tunes was featured in their stellar compilation. Sit tight and hang loose with the breezy “Willow Whale”, which will be included on their album set for release sometime early next year.

Earlier this year UK label No Pain In Pop released a solid v/a mix comprised of many like minded artists as well as some that I have discussed in times past (i.e. Telepathe, Night Jewel, HEALTH). Totally oblivious to A Grave With No Name beforehand, their track featured on this comp, “And We Parted Ways at Mount Jade”, stood head and shoulders above the rest. Going forward in my search for anything AGWNN my liking was only affirmed in finding a stellar split with Indiana youngster Natural Numbers (who, also, happens to have a recently dropped LP on Neon Aztec). A recent addition to their myspace playlist, “Open Waters”, is set to be on the track listing for their forthcoming long player on Lefse and the guys at AGWNN have been cool enough to send the tune in my direction (actually, this is said to be a different mix than offered elsewhere). Breezy and as carefree as the people splashing in the samples, “Open Waters” is another warm addition to any eclectic Summer playlist.
