There’s something about plunging into a crisp swimming pool that makes me feel completely isolated from the masses in my surroundings. The images in my chlorine filled eyes are familiar yet not completely defined, a mash up of chatter (which I’m, most likely, not interested in) is almost completely filtered out through the water, and I’m completely floating in a medium where the normal rules of gravity don’t apply. More themed than most of my mixtapes, these tracks (which also happen to be new/ish) are nearly as muffled as the bros in the pool crowd. And Robin, I gots that jj for ya.

I haven’t been shy in posting on the Fresh & Onlys this year. More than a few posts and even included them in my “Best Of So Far” list. Tim Cohen (F&O frontman), on top of everything else, has just released a solo project with Secret Seven and Empty Cellar Records (via Endless Nest Collective). Those familiar with Tim Cohen might, also, recognize him with the recently disbanded Black Fiction. His latest LP, The Two Sides of Tim Cohen, offers eerie psych-folk tunes and set Tim apart from his other endeavors. Very limited! Only 250 copies pressed (100 are in white). Highly recommended tunes! Buy here.

Lately, it’s been nearly impossible to argue with the artists that Woodsist Records have been producing. Once again, this proves to be true. A favorite of mine (if you’ve been on this site in the past I’m sure you already know this!), The Fresh & Onlys, are already in the works of pushing their second album this year. Still in the womb, Grey-Eyed Girls, should be released prior to their tour later this fall. “Happy to be Living” gives us our first glimpse of what to expect and does not disappoint in the least. Whether its graveyard dogs barking or a creaking noise that could only come from Norma Bates’s rocking chair, the F&O’s paint an eerily beautiful look into mortality. Keep an eye out for the new LP, and get acquainted with their already released s/t. Word on the street is these guys should be on our block sometime this October.

I’ve had the latest Fresh & Onlys LP (out now via Castle Face Records) on repeat for the past two weeks. Let’s put it this way, I can’t listen to anything else because the lp has melted and now become a permanent fixture on my record player (miss you side b!). I know, I know this is like my third post on these guys in the last month, but this is probably one of my favorite albums of the year so far. Insound, and their reccommend mp3s, has recently offered up this free download of one of their key tunes “Peacock Wing”. A perfect harbinger to the hot summer days, the F&O’s deliver a mix between California beach pop and quick guitar riffs/high hat beats that give the song some attitude. I’ve been talking with these guys the past few weeks and they will be dropping a new Woodsist LP late fall and we should expect to see them on tour sometime in October (yes, I have a feeling they will be coming to Denton).
