winterreview

It’s been a while since I’ve lost sleep in anticipation of Christmas Day goodies.  As a kid, thoughts of the Transformers Dinobots and Legos were usually the culprit.  This year:  The Underwater Peoples Winter Review.  Seriously, I ran to the computer and downloaded this before I even took a glimpse at any wrapped boxes.  After some quality headphone time, we would like to share this awesome compilation over airwaves (um, internet airwaves) from cover to cover.  Since our episodes are 16 tracks long (the comp being only 15), we thought it fitting to lead off with MJ’s “Human Nature”.  Head to Indie-Verse for the broadcast and, when you’re done, download the entire thing free (for a limited time) at Chocolate Bobka’s.

tapedeckradio

Our fourth episode will, not only, have some great new tracks up (from Beach House, Brilliant Colors, and Total Slacker) but we are also having a contest.  Just use these easy to follow steps and we will send you a unique cassette tape of today’s show sans commentary, of course.  We are also including a “one-of-a-kind” hand designed sleeve for the cassette.  Cool, right?  Well, whether you think so or not just email us at weeklytapedecktix@gmail.com with the artist name and title of the very last song in our rotation.  First person to do so is the winner!  Honestly, it’s not incredibly hard to name but contests are fun and so are mix-tapes so use yr ears.  Tune in to Indie-Verse, listen, and get a cool cassette.  ALSO!  Don’t forget to catch Neko Case tonight at the Granada Theater. Tracklist after the jump.

weekly-tapemix-3-no-overlay

I’ve been mulling through this idea for the past couple of weeks, and finally decided to yank the plug on the weekly mixtape installment.  Not saying I’m done making mixes all together, but I feel like they should be more of a novel concept.  Maybe something seasonal?  Not sure, don’t really want to obligate myself to anything.  But, when then mixtapes do roll-out  I’ll make sure you guys know about it.

Dem Hunger – Charles Shit
Drake ft. Nipsey Hustle – Killer
O’Spada – Time (DA SUCKSHAFT Remix)
The Silent League – Here’s a Star (Neon Indian Remix)

wild animal kingdom compilation

underwater

While making my internet rounds the other day, I happened to see our Hold Yr Breath mixtape pinned up at one of our favorite record label’s blogsUnderwater Peoples, that is.  It was also good to see that the mix was in good company with a variety of other mixes from some of my favorite music watering holes.  One of these mixes that particularly caught my eye was that of the Wild Animal Kingdom.  Fathering many of the artists that are now on Underwater Peeps from Julian Lynch to Pill Wonder, and it doesn’t stop there.  On cassette, Wild Animal Kingdom’s second compilation features a heavenly dish of those chill laid-back tunes that are making everyone’s summer more enjoyable.  Head over to their site, check out the catalogue, and order what you fancy.  The 2nd comp is set for a FREE download and here are a couple tracks that have stood the test of my rewind button.

Karl Blau – I Hold You High
Fluffy Lumbers – Cruisers
