wtd blog radio// indie-verse [merry christmas]

ojsimpson

To get in that “holiday spirit”, our selection of tracks for this week’s episode are all about Christmas.  The majority of these are a bit older but there is a new track that Banjo or Freakout recently finished that we added in the mix.  So, head over to Indie-Verse at 1 pm CST (or just listen all day) and check us out.  Merry Christmas!

ganglians//blood on the sand

Spooky-pop devotees and Beach Boys doppelgangers Ganglians have recently released their first non-split 7-inch single through Captured Tracks; both the band and the label say it is their best work so far, and I have to conform to that statement myself. With these two tracks the band takes a few steps away from the Wilson cajolery and in their own direction while maintaining the rich harmonies that draw so many comparisons to the legends. Both tracks were recorded by Jarvis of Woods at the Rear House, which makes sense as Woods also have a song named “Blood On The Sand” naturally though, these are completely different tracks. While on the subject of the Sacramento natives Ganglians; they are currently on tour with Wavves as we speak and are coming through the metroplex within the week. There are conflicting sources though, Parade of Flesh the promoter is stating that the show will be at Elm St. Lounge, while on both Wavves and Ganglians myspaces the show is shown to be at the Pastime Lounge. Either way the show is not to be missed, if anyone can clear this up please do.

sex beet//she don’t surf 7″

l_dd732513186b42f99b786797a94b3ff1

I got this tune over a week back now and once again was slow to put it up. Doesn’t mean that it didn’t deserve it because it definitely does. Sex Beet, some fellas from across the pond in the UK are spot on the same wavelength as in the States with their surf vibe, but with a much more ballsy approach. Everyone’s learning how!! The upcoming 7″ of She Don’t Surf, out on Fistful of Records this October was something this group never expected to happen. An email from member Luke Reilly pretty much sums it up on their origin.

“We started [Sex Beet] pretty much as a joke just to pass time, we recorded some real shitty version of a song called “Nice Hair / Nice Titties” and put it on the myspace, the next thing we know we were offered to tour France.”

I’ve been enjoying now for a good week, just been lazy with my posts. I’ve attached the great, “Scarecrow,” from them as well as a video of the aforementioned “Nice Hair/Nice Titties.” Awesome.
