The xx have essentially made everyone’s lives better, wouldnt you agree? They come along, unannounced and unexpected and make a huge fuss of their gothic-post-punk-drummy music. Its beautiful really, its something your girlfriend wants to have sex while listening to; the band has never shied away from remixes, and now comes the song “Island” as the subject. The notable bands on the release are Delorean and Nosaj Thing, and the remixes between the two could not be any different. Note: we’ve posted a few of the xx songs before/also I can’t wait to see the band at SXSW.

Dent May (magnificent ukulele in hand) stopped by the Daytrotter studios and laid down four tracks.  All were included on last years release, The Good Feeling Music of Dent May and His Magnificent Ukulele, and (yes) “Howard” is one of em.  I still don’t get why everyone likes to shoehorn that Dent is “friends with Animal Collective”–because that has nothing to do with his sound–but the this Rock Island session is nothing shy of “magnificent”.  Download available here and make sure to check out his first DT appearance.

Brand new from The Strange Boys premiered this morning over at GvsB for “Be Brave”.  The title track to their upcoming LP set to release on In the Red later this month (23rd).

Girls of Graviton are a sound manipulating foursome out of Memphis that bring the noise. Their songs sound as if you surrounded yourself with four boom-boxes, three playing various Legendary Pink Dots albums and one playing the JAMC–and thats an understatement when you include the skewed complexity of their sound-craft. This new song “Rainbo” is a recording they just finished for a Speed Tapes comp with an interesting prompt. Speed Tapes asked a slew of artists to watch the 2008 Wachowski Brothers film SPEED RACER and write a song based on their reactions. If you think of it in that way, this song is going to make a hell of a lot more sense. Im actually stoked for this compilation, the idea is fantastic and we get a new TONSTARTSSBANDHT song out of it, I cant wait to hear their contribution as well as the other bands.

Earlier last month Blackburn Recordings released the debut EP of Ridgewood dudes, Big Troubles, that was “recorded in Ian’s basement, surrounded by guitars, a multitude of pedals, a drum machine, and a 4-track”.  The b-side sent over, “Wouldn’t Mind”, is a catchy slice of lo-fi pop, warm and fuzzy.  If you happen to remember our first post of their “Freudian Slips” joint, this EP actually leads off with an alternate version of that (which I have yet to hear).  Ready to ship, order now.
