Yes, yes, yes. This is exactly what I’ve needed. Appropriately named band and song title.  Check. South-American steel drum synth. Check. Mysterious and beautiful vocals. Double Check.  Sunless ’97 is made up by three hairful Londoners laying vocals and emoting sol de la música as if their feet were infinitely buried in the sand. This comes from their upcoming Moshi Moshi 7-inch.

Pleasantly surprised and impressed with this kid known as Ghibli from Edmonton. I am not a fan of most sample-heavy music but the grainy beat, effortlessly-catchy r&b-eats caught me immediately and nestled my eardrums, post-club. Wizard Oz let us know their tape is now available for download over at their bandcamp and for purchase from Peking Tapes. In commemoration they wanted us to post another track. I chose the airy apparition known as “What Are They,” it’s the opener and set’s the tone for a loop-driven, headphonic album,–and it’s all for you.

Cloudy Busey has been headed in this direction lately and I feel he finally turned a corner with this song, like he found a nice soft patch of grass to rest on and write synth jams.  The Osaka, Japan solo project of silky-voiced Bob of Ice Cream Shout seems to be an outlet for whatever-the-fuck-he-wants and we’ve seen this over the years. Check out the video of Bob doing things while “Who Says They Love You” plays.

Sammy Yager aka Birthdays sent over a video for “Howolding Girls,” he so nicely pointed out we were actually the first to post this way back in 2010 when it was a demo known as “Procreating Flower Bug.” Part of the the joy I get from continuing to use this blog as a creative outlet is watching the arc of artists career, we saw it recently and drastically with Youth Lagoon. Birthdays seems to be doing very well these days, it’s been over 2 years since I found “Biggie Shorty” on his Myspace, of all places. Upcoming he has a handful of shows in Boston and Japan, check out the dates and the video below.

Always impressed at the //TENSE// mixes. This one tops out at 89 minutes and brews together the sounds of kraut with pop, obscure dance mixes to dreamy synth and early cold-wave. They often post demos to their new songs on their Facebook as well that have a limited number of downloads, it’s little gifts like this that help bands stand out these days–not to mention we love repping Texas groups. Purity Ring dropped a new track on us this late Monday night and it is single-handedly nursing my Coachella hang-over like a swaddled baby with a mother’s breast. This is the first track off the full-length that will be out on Last Gang/4AD on7/26.

Portland’s Mean Jeans are back with a cleaner recording but there is nothing glossy about their approach– snotty vocals and brash guitar licks. Dirtnap Records seems a perfect fit for these denim-defenders of all things brazen. “Hangin’ Tuff” is the all-purpose accompaniment for bong rips, a bag of chips and hanging with your bros. If punk is dead then Mean Jeans are slamming tall-boys at the graveyard and passing out at it’s tombstone. Check out the video for “Anybody Out There” below.
