Bathetic continues to be one of my favorite outlets of lef-of-center music and every time I get an email from them Im stoked–their 23rd release will be a marble-swirl 7″ from Cloudland Canyon. The a-side is a 5-minute marble-swirl itself, “Mothlight Pt. 2″ creates a dense psychedelic landscape with its shadowy vocals, high-strung guitar and an almost celebratory cymbal beat throughout the song. You can purchase the 7″ directly from Bathetic here.

Woven Bones stopped by Insound’s studio to record a few tracks, one from the most recent LP and two brand-spankin’ new crushers, furthermore, there is a video accompanying each song.

It’s only been a couple of weeks since we were enamored with Angel Olsen and the very personal/beautiful “Creator, Destroyer”. While in Chicago our good friends at Yours Truly captured her performing two tracks (“Creator, Destroyer” and “If It’s Alive It Will”) with an honesty that couldn’t possibly be emulated. If you haven’t grabbed it already, Olsen has an amazing tape, Strange Cacti, available on Bathetic. Highly recommended. The progression of this video is devastating and beautiful, Angel goes from naive and almost nervous to resolute and singing with conviction, Yours Truly has captured pure gold.

Slow Animal sent over the b-side for the JAXART 7″–said to be one of the first songs they wrote that they recently made-over in the studio. “Saturday Mourning” is an untethered pop jam, similar to whats coming out of Cleveland with Cloud Nothings. They happen to be coming through Denton soon to play at Dans as well so check that out.

Very excited about what I am hearing from Chicago outfit, Shapers, who have sent over new songs from a 7″–two spacey jams, a perfect triplet for the blazing Midwest sun and a cold micro-brew. Understated and mellow, these songs have more in common with ultimate DIYer R. Stevie Moore than most of todays musical landscape, a bold statement that is clearly working well for them.
