phpSpip8mPM

Today we at Weekly Tape Deck will be straddling the long road to Austin, TX in search of fun, booze and of course music; all signs lead to Funfunfunfest. FFFfest has become the intermediary between SXSW and the lineup this year proves to be their best so far. You can bet we will be taking plenty of pictures and getting all the info your brains can handle. If you would like to keep up with us in real time the WTD dudes’ twitters are here and here.  Furthermore, if you happen to be heading down there, or if you would just like to jam a few bands that are playing– WTD has put together a few songs from some of the artists we will be watching. Enjoy.

Les Savy Fav – Patty Lee
The Strange Boys – This Girls Taught Me a Dance
No Age – Losing Feeling
Harlem – I’m On Drugs
Atlas Sound – Criminals
Times New Viking – Call & Respond
Mika Miko – Bastard In Love
Fuck Buttons – Rough Steez

[vide0] wavves//no hope kids

New video from one of my fav Wavves tunes.  Basically a montage of shenannigans while on his brief tour through Europe.  Late nights taking pulls off a Smirnoff bottle or toking off a doob, it’s easy to see how “the road” would lead to his eventual meltdown.  However, Nathan Williams has recently visited with the guys over at P4K and gives us a look into what to expect for his future plans and assures us that, despite what happened, he is not finished.

mika miko, strange boys, bad sports//live @ rgrs denton, tx [6/5/09]

Killer show last night in Denton at Rubber Gloves with Mika Miko, Strange Boys, and Bad Sports.  Picked up a cassette tape from BS and jammed that on the way home even though my ears were ringing non-stop.  The guys from Denton made a lot of new fans last night from the small, but appreciative crowd.  Strange Boys delivered a stellar set that was a good change in pace juxtaposed with the headliners,  Mika Miko.  They absolutely blew me away in terms of energy and the ability to galvanize an audience.  Reminded me of some hybrid of Pylon/Go-Go’s.

weekly mixtape

weekly-tapemix-3-no-overlay

This has been a great week for new tunes here on the Tape Deck.  Release dates are keeping me salivating and my LP shopping cart is overflowing (mostly pre-orders).  Hopefully I will have some great mail days in the incoming week.  Plus, I will FINALLY have some days off next week to hook up some “upgrades” for the site.  I’ve been getting a ton of positive responses on the mixtapes in the past so I will start offering a .zip file so the entire thing can be downloaded versus once at a time.  Look for me to go back and update all of the mixtapes sometime early next week.  As for now, enjoy it as is and have a great weekend!

Health – Die Slow (Pictureplane Remix)
The xx – Crystalised
Suckers – It Gets Your Body Movin (Alternate Version)
Delay Trees – Resurrection of Sonic Blue
Sunset Rubdown – Idiot Heart
Iron and Wine – Belated Promise Ring
The xx – Hot Like Fire (Aaliyah Cover)
Phoenix – 1901
Cool Kids – Hammer Bros.
Delay Trees – About Brothers
Wavves – Wavves
Gun Outfit – Guilt/Regret
Light Pines – Figs

vaselines begin 2nd ever u.s. tour

enter_the_vaselines_cov

Not that this is all too relevant to the DFW (they won’t be within 500 miles of Texas), but if you’ve got tons of money and can buy a plane ticket I think you might just have shit your pants.  The Vaselines, you probably heard Kurt Cobain talk about them a time or two, are embarking on their 2nd tour of the U.S.  Sub-Pop just released delux edition 3xLP Enter the Vaselines, a collection of hits/rarities/b-sides and (if you’ve got a few hours to sit down and jam some tunes) is nothing short of a masterpiece.  Here’s a couple of tracks to enjoy, as well as the tour dates that I probably won’t get to visit.

The Vaselines
May 10 El Rey Theater (LA), Los Angeles, CA
May 11 Bimbos, San Francisco, CA
May 12 Neumos, Seattle, WA
May 13 Doug Fir Lounge, Portland, OR
May 15 Lee’s Palace, Toronto, Canada
May 16 Metro, Chicago, IL
May 17 Bowery Ballroom, The, New York City, NY
May 28 Primavera Sound Festival, Barcelona, Spain

The Vaselines – Son of a Gun
The Vaselines – Jesus Wants Me For a Sunbeam
