So we now complete the “trifecta” having a video, flyer and a sick compilation of some of the bands playing our showcase. Kudos to Andy from Woven Bones for the flyer and Ian at Friendship Bracelet for putting these comps together (which, by the way, will be handed out physically to the early arrivals). Not that our party is “RSVP required”, but if you’d like to let us know you’re coming feel free to add your name to the list! Click the jump for links to download and a complete tracklist.

(big ups to Nate Chan @ Yours Truly for putting this vid together)
What started off as a single day show somehow ballooned into a massive three day “festival” between us and some friends. During the madness that is SXSW, we bring you OUR own party. The collaborative efforts of Yours Truly, Indie-Verse, Transparent, Friendship Bracelet, Sammi Is Booking and the Underwater Peoples have built upon something great. A place where you can grab a beer and listen to some good tunes and get a buzzcut in the parking lot next door after stuffing yr face with Ethiopian sponge bread. For three days (March 18-20, 2010) we bring to you a massive amount of music from/with friends that we have met through starting this site almost a year ago. So from all of us to you…

The Weekly Tape Deck dudes will be out and full of fire tonight at the Lounge on Elm St. where Darktown Strutters will be playing host to touring band Twisted Wires. Two bands who very obviously are knowledgeable of their influences; many will point Joy Division, and that is recognized but too easy for a blogger to point out. Darktown Strutters seem to find much inspiration in Warsaw and sometimes even moreso in goth cornerstones Klaus Nomi and Sex Gang Children. Twisted Wires not straying far are more polished and have an almost have a trance appeal and retain a syrupy-Swans beat-fest. The show tonight is only $5 so come out and drink a vodka-whiskey-acid-rum-scotch-on-the-rox with us.

Tomorrow night Parade of Flesh will be presenting one of my favorite acts of this year, Real Estate. Nestled deep in the heart of cosmopolitan Downtown Dallas, The City Tavern is sandwiched between d-bag sausage factories like Club Plush and Clear “Ultra”lounge but is actually one of the few down to earth bars left in the area. However, the rich tones and palatial soundscapes of Courtney and co. will be more than enough reason to brave walking amongst a sea of LA Looks and Ed Hardy bros. Real Estate is set to go on stage at midnight, but the venue is so small I’ll be getting there early to hold a seat down. 21 + only and it’l cost you 5 bucks at the door.

Along with our good, good friends at Indie-Verse we will be presenting the upcoming Jay Reatard, Fergus & Geronimo and Surfer Blood show at the Granada Theater on December 10th. Skilled with the pen, Andrew Savage of F & G has even put together this rad flyer for the show. We’ve got 5 pairs of tickets to give away so just e-mail us at weeklytapedecktix@gmail.com. Usually the most clever responses win, just sayin’. Buy tickets.

Fergus & Geronimo – Powerful Lovin’

A line-up that was more intriguing to me than the first day was totally dampened by the rain. all. day. long. Started things off with the great Atlas Sound and Ally was one of the few that they actually allowed on stage for photo ops. Not only were her ones of Bradford most excellent, but she was able to do another fine job of capturing each artist at their best. Sans rain, this is one of the better times I’ve had at a music festival. Hands down.

For our first “all access” coverage of any sort of music festival, I’d have to call it a great success. The line ups for both days was absolutely rad. The weather? Completely dichotomous. As for day no. 1, nothing but clear skies and and Spring-like temperatures (we’ll get to day no. 2 later). From the laid-back of chillwave tunes of Neon Indian to the circus show antics of Les Savy Fav, A. Jayne, once again, was able to capture the FunFunFun with pinpoint accuracy . Oh, and I threw in my fair share of pics as well (mine are “sans watermark”). Enjoy…

We also have local garage-rock-barons Uptown Bums and VIDEO playing. Doors open at 9pm and it should fill up fast so get their early and hang out with us.
