There’s something about plunging into a crisp swimming pool that makes me feel completely isolated from the masses in my surroundings. The images in my chlorine filled eyes are familiar yet not completely defined, a mash up of chatter (which I’m, most likely, not interested in) is almost completely filtered out through the water, and I’m completely floating in a medium where the normal rules of gravity don’t apply. More themed than most of my mixtapes, these tracks (which also happen to be new/ish) are nearly as muffled as the bros in the pool crowd. And Robin, I gots that jj for ya.

Still haven’t gotten the whole “podcast” perfected yet. But, no worries, I’ll keep to my word. Can’t say it’s the most eventful weekend (show-wise), unless you’re just dying to make it to that New Kids on the Block bash tonight (seriously, this is not some lame ass joke). Here’s a slight recap of the week and (as always) a few extra I couldn’t let slide.

UPDATE: Remember how I said this weekend was uneventful? Well, I’m completely full of shit. Tonight, for all you readers in the DFW area, the Dallas Observer will be showcasing most of the musicians nominated for this years Dallas Observer Music Awards (DOMAXXI, their 21st year). Six venues in the Lower Greenville area will host 40 bands for the oh-so-low price of 5 bucks. WTD favs Bad Sports, Yeahdef, and Fergus and Geronimo are just a few in what should be an abundance of stellar live music. Here is the lineup/schedule.

Wow, yesterday I took about five hits below the belt. First, Seeds frontman Sky Saxon takes a bow. Then, the beautiful Farah Fawcet lost her battle with cancer. Can’t say I was all TOO saddened by these, but I can be a sympathetic guy. In the middle of work yesterday, everything (literally EVERYTHING) was put on pause to talk about MJ’s heart attack. Within ten minutes, his death was already confirmed. No matter your opinion on Michael’s personal lifestyle, his impact on the music universe cannot be debated. From a childhood star at 11 to an icon at 50 whos name will forever be engraved in a generation. This is a playlist of some of my favorite MJ tunes. It may not encompass his career, but I find it only fitting to show respect to someone that has affected something [music] that I love so much. RIP MJ. Honestly, I didn’t get as big a turn out as I would have liked (50+), but I did still have enough people send me some of their tunes to make a decent list. Maybe next time I’ll just put a poll up on the site. Good thing is, there were so many tunes that I couldn’t/forgot to squeeze into last week’s mixtape and they are getting a chance today. Actually, I didn’t even realize that I neglected Pains of Being Pure at Heart until a few days later (dorked it!). Some of my favs looked to be the same for others, but it’s cool to see a good differentiation. Thanks to those that contributed, all you other guys that forgot…well, I still love you too (just not as much :P).
