As some of you may know, I recently relocated to from Dallas to Los Angeles. Before I embarked on the 1500 mile trek I asked a few friends to make a mix. One friend in particular was Matt Foglton, a former resident of my new home. He churned out the best mix I’ve ever received, which he posted on his blog Bigger Splashes–a post-Empire musical hinterland full of whatever-he-wants. To say this man has influenced my musical tastes would be an understatement–i.e. he introduced my to both John Maus and Ariel Pink back when Bush started his 2nd term. These songs help to describe a city of many personalities–best listened to at night with a beer and backdrop of city lights. Here is what he had to say about the mix:
Some songs that remind me of LA, for Ryan. I came across a lot of these bands when I was around 21 and 22. It was a very confusing time in my life and this weird shit helped to confuse me even further, but without them I would not be the person I am today.
