[video] pink playground//come find me

Deranged 1968 French silent film Le Révélateur set to Pink Playground‘s coalescing love ode “Come Find Me”. Available on this gorgeous 10″.

[fresh] blouse//shadow

blouse, sub pop, new romantic, human league

Blouse‘s laid back sound is certainly not as grandiose as the apparent 6,000 foot warehouse they are based but what the band does well with hits minimalist sound. With a likeness to a somber Human League among other new romantic bands that passed the perpetual “dreamy” torch onto shoegaze in the early 90s, another sound the Portland band endorses. Sub Pop will release Blouse‘s Shadow 7″ on May 31, pre-order here.

holy cobras//never let me down

Holy Cobras offer up a garage rock soundtrack tailor-made for the Armageddon. “Never Let Me Down” is from their new full length Forever and takes equal parts influence from GG Allin‘s drugs, the trashcan punk of Thee Headcoats, and Throbbing Gristle‘s many manifestations. This record is out now on always-cacophonous Telephone Explosion Records.

Fantastic remix from, Diamond Rings, the tall baller up North takes an aerobic approach with the remix–this shit makes me want to get up and move.

My favorite song on the new Panda Bear record, get some good headphones and give it a look and a listen.

[album stream] cults//cults

NPR has put up a full album stream of the new Cults record on their website. We’ve posted a few songs over the past year (we also put out their first 7-inch) and we are heartily in love with the band’s 60′s icon-pop statements– furthermore the full sounded Spector-esque production. Putting the whole album up in its entirety is still a great step for a major label release, lets indulge them.

coolrunnings//rusk

No secret we have some supreme love for COOLRUNNINGS here at Weekly Tape Deck and as long as they constantly bless their fans with new songs, we will continue to share them. This time we get a couple slow jams from their soundcloud, “Rusk” and “Fool Moon”– the former is a sludgy tune framed by a steady drum beat and angelic voice, the latter grabs the ear with a viscous synth lead and COOLRUNNINGS‘ signature swaying delayed guitar. Two very different songs from the Tennessee band that you can download below.

wise blood//penthouse suites

Wise Blood aka Chris Laufman has crafted some uniquely chopped-up blue-eyed-soul songs since he first emerged last year– with “Penthouse Suites” he hits with low-key tunage and lyrics drenched in emotional rhetoric. “Send your word/Just let me know this life is what I deserve” the words careen from the cracks of his teeth, pushed out by a seemingly unsure bumbling drawl that sets Wise Blood’s vocal practices apart from his contemporaries. Check out the mp3 below from his These Wings EP, set to be released on Dovecote in August.

[video] bass drum of death//get found

Bass Drum of Death may have put out the, and I hesitate to use the phrase, most important “rock ‘n roll” record in the last few years–if this is the case consider “Get Found” the magnum opus of the record. GB City is a rip-roarin’ ride of infallible drum beats, gnarled guitar licks and cocky vocals not to mention a spectacular live show. The video for “Get Found” might well be the greatest artifact the Cats Purring fellows have thus created–perhaps it is an accurate relic of the party-life in Oxford, MS, if this is true I want to be there. Check out their tour dates here.

[video] timber timbre//black water

Heard this song the other day from Timber Timbre and wanted to post, but now there is a fantastic video to go a long with it. An underwater excursion through the rotting corpse of a diver and the strange creatures living off/surrounded him.
