Day 2 of 35 Conferette I opted to skip most of the daytime shows (besides Dr. Dog) and instead headed into the night at Haileys to see the closest thing to a “punk show” 35 Conferette had put together this year — that being Leg Sweeper, Record Hop, and Japanther.
Leg Sweeper got things started with their 2-man brand of Wavves-style nerd rock, its all partying, drinking, and girls — so I guess its the natural evolution of subjects the Beach Boys started so many years ago. This band has great potential to blow-up if they continue to play shows, they’re musicĀ is catchy is easy to enjoy.
Record Hop is a band that has been playing the Denton circuit for going on 10 years and carries a early 90s punk mentality similar to Unwound, Shellac, etc…
Japanther came on and having already known they had been adopted by the bike punks and genre favorites a few years ago, I knew this show would be nuts. I’ve seen them before when the crowd was less interested but this time they seemed to feed off the energy making the music and the show better.
Leg Sweeper – Sexy Weekend
Record Hop – Maths
Japanther – River Phoenix
Dr. Dog – Easy Beat
