Eternal Summers has always had a way with cleverly crafting quick-hitting pop gems. Be it from their debut 10″ or their most recent LP, Silver, their uptempo rhythmics are nothing short on infectious. Our friends at Kanine Records have teamed up with us here at Forest Family to present a short collection of new tracks from our Roanoake sweethearts. The title track from the EP, “Prisoner”, is very likely Eternal Summers at their most lively. The Prisoner EP will hit shelves on April 19th in digital formats along with a 12″ white vinyl run limited to 500. Pre-order available.

My fascination with Grimes has only grown since I saw the Canadian songstress perform a handful of enchanting SXSW sets earlier this month. Her newest track, “Vanessa,” is filled with 4/4 breaks and a much more uplifting beat than anything we heard on last year’s Halfaxa LP. As always, her powerful voice boasts that big things do come in small packages. This time around, Claire Boucher teams with Montreal neighbor D’eon to release the split EP, Darkbloom. Although each side is individually produced and created the album remains cohesive, as if the two shared the same recording space in its making.
Darkbloom EP is out April 12th via Arbutus Records/Hippos in Tanks in digital and vinyl 12″ formats

Yohuna out of Phoenix, AZ is the solo project of angelic Johanne Swanson. Slow burning ambient music set to Johanne’s humming, bittersweet vocals with heaps of reverb. Check out the video for the track “Mateo” after the jump.

I received an email from Tim Perry the other day stated the Weed Diamond had broken up and with the email he was gracious enough to send an enormous collection of unreleased WD tracks, I decided to pick a few of the more somber ones I’d never even seen to post and then of course the tracks we posted as they came along the past two years. On a lighter note it was a pleasure to know the guys as a band, them playing our SXSW 2010 show and enjoying a tasty sip of their communal FourLoko (Ian from FB‘s first). Tim also asked me to share that there are three instrumental tracks in that were void of vocals, and that if anyone want to add them they were more than welcome to and too look out for new material very soon. Below are the three songs from the Northian Apartments single.

Sorry for the abundance of slashes in the title, //TENSE// seems to be on the WTD level. The first I heard of //TENSE// was super boutique label Disaro proprietor for all things EBM and witch-house. The Houston band channels cyber-goth and synth fortitude usually reserved for band 30 years their senior. This song is from a sold out release via Desire Records, but soon the band will have a 5-song 12″ out on Mannequin Mailorder. In other news the band will be coming through locally to Rubber Gloves, it’ll be a dancy-party Beyond Thunderdome.
