Woven Bones stopped by Insound’s studio to record a few tracks, one from the most recent LP and two brand-spankin’ new crushers, furthermore, there is a video accompanying each song.

It’s only been a couple of weeks since we were enamored with Angel Olsen and the very personal/beautiful “Creator, Destroyer”. While in Chicago our good friends at Yours Truly captured her performing two tracks (“Creator, Destroyer” and “If It’s Alive It Will”) with an honesty that couldn’t possibly be emulated. If you haven’t grabbed it already, Olsen has an amazing tape, Strange Cacti, available on Bathetic. Highly recommended. The progression of this video is devastating and beautiful, Angel goes from naive and almost nervous to resolute and singing with conviction, Yours Truly has captured pure gold.

Forest Family Records‘ latest release, via Sleep ∞ Over, has finally gone up for pre-order along with a download of the b-side. The gorgeous “La Rose” is a deep-burning cut featuring slinky-synths and heart shattering vocal harmonies, a true testament to their graceful sound. For our friends on the West Coast, the ladies will be blazing up the California coastline for a full week and then wrap things up back in Texas (see dates). Hopefully they’ll have a few of these on tour…or you can pre-order here.

Busy destroying live sets and even home-recording several new tracks, BK newcomers, Night Manager, have been steadily on the grind. Starting off with a clamor which is then contained and followed by sharp guitar licks and cavernous “oohs and aahs”, “Wolf Pyramid” is a near four minutes of raw energy. Word is they’re prepping songs for a future home somewhere, stay tuned.

New Black Lips song recorded live at Jonathan Clancy‘s radio base, Maps, in Italy. “So Long to Carolina” is an adventurous bluegrass ballad for that free-spirited spontaneous traveler. Saddle up.

The title of this song is misleading yet youll soon realize it finds its appropriate sound, steel drum and twang in tow. I saw this band on a Rose Quartz post the other day and was pretty impressed by the sound, full, stout and fresh with joy. Some Feelies musical references in here as well as a little Orange Juice and Im sold, according to Rose Quartz The Ancients are to have a new record coming out on Sensory Projects very soon.

Oakland ladies (and obvious Raiders fans), The Splinters have been mostly known for their buzzsaw grrrl power. “Blood On My Hands” however, which can be found on their latest Southpaw-Records 7″, is less punk and more Nuggets-era jangle. Lifelined with an absolutely tribal bass line and psychedelic guitar pickings, this rides well with a few peace pipe rotations at a bonfire pow-wow. Only limited to 500 copies (first 100 on colored vinyl), this 7″ is available for pre-order now.
