Yet another track leak from The Cool Kids upcoming Tacklebox mixtape (dropping later tonight). Leaned out beats leading to a screwed, smoke filled outro are more stoned than the track title implies. Oh yeah, and the track length is 4:20…go figure.

Debut 7″ release for San Fran label Father/Daughter Records from, trio, Family Trees. I’m slightly reminded of Phil Elvrum in The Glow, Pt. 2 days, not derivative but it’s definitely a stand out connection. The label is still working on setting up their “fancy PayPal store” so enjoy the title track from their EP in the meantime, “Dream Talkin”.

There has to be something in the water in Mississippi. I’ve mentioned on countless occasions that the stewing scene there is set to be noticed on a more national scale and, for the most part, it has been. John Barret’s Bass Drum of Death is one of the key components for the state’s recent found success and with his latest offering he proves to keep it that way. It takes some serious balls for a dude to cover a Chiffons’ track but it takes even more when you hear that it’s “He’s So Fine”. Not only does Barrett pull it off, he does so with dart throwing accuracy. From the harmonious tracking (all of which are by Barrett himself) to the slice of Southern garage kick that’s added, this is one of the more perfectly executed covers that I’ve heard in a while. On the books for a July release via Brooklyn’s Daed Pizza as a 7″ single (keep an eye on their shop for a pre-order). Also, catch him on a half month tour through the Midwest on East Coast, all listed here.
