Darktown Strutters have been making great steps in the Dallas music scene as of late, when we last saw them, they were playing a show with drowned-out post-punks Twisted Wires, at which they played this new song. “(Grab A) Silver Bullet” is nefariously equipped with lyrics that could be gift-wrapped in barbed-wire and given to Beelzebub on his birthday. If you happen to be interested in seeing these duo, they have a great show coming up with A Place To Bury Strangers and Big Pink at Granada on April 9th.

I’ve been swooning over Arches ever since Delicious Scopitione featured “Comin’ Back Again” on their Ecstatic Winter compilation (highly recommended). They sent over a few other tracks the other day, and the feeling remains the same. Remaining a duo until their exodus to the East Coast to reunite with their full band, check for releases and live performances sometime this Summer.

Brand new video from our buds (and fellow Sensitive Homeboyz) The Numerators. These “neon nursery rhymes” now have a video face for a track off of their first album Smoke My Brain. Also, Burgers Records is set to release their ultra-limited (100 copies) Human Blanket EP on cassette or for free in mp3 form.

Two perfect summer jams were just sent over later last night from the righteous Fungi Girls. Yeah it’s spring now, but both “Turquoise Hotel” and “Owsley Knows” are both a-sides for their Hozac and Group Tightener 7″s which are set for a mid-Summer release date. Both of these tracks show some serious maturity in these dude’s sound, but what’s most impressive to me is the minimal approach they took in “Owsley Knows”. Really love to see these guys (not girls) moving in such a positive direction.

My faith in MySpace has been temporarily restored. As of late, I’ve mostly been getting friend requests from people like this guy (album art of the year?), but thanks to my new New Jersey “friends”, Slow Animal, I think I’ll keep checking for new social networking buds. The dual vocal delivery surrounded by a sea of ooohs and aaaahs backed with unbelievably catchy guitar riffs will be keeping my headphones busy for the next few days. Check out their 4 track digital ep which is up for grabs…for free.

We had a blast on our first journey into the depths of SXSW, and here’s a few pics to document the times had. Had a few battery/illness issues that prevented my camera/me from encompassing everything, but I can assure you that good times were had by all. BIG BIG BIG thanks to all of the bands that played this event and to all you that came out to join us. Next year…

One of our blog bros (who recently crashed our hotel room this last weekend at SXSW) Jheri over at GOTC has just made a video collage to the tune of Weed Diamond‘s “Snowmelt”. Seems like they enjoyed it enough to call it their official video for the tune.
