We were sent this track a few days back by Samuel Yager, known by the pseudonym Birthdays, and I just got around to listening to it and its consequently made my day. The track is “Biggie Shorty” and comes off his Mating Falls EP out on Little Fury Things and he alluded to a new EP on one of our fav labels, Breakfast Of Champs. The track is a boisterous escape into a thicket of soft-sounds and understated vocals. The end of this song comes in at a healthy 3 min but for all enjoyable purposes I have to keep it on repeat.

Lemonade comes straight from the loins of True Panther Sounds, the purveyor of good tunes under the Matador label. This new song we are gifted is titled “Lifted” and is a cacophony of separate bleeps and soundbytes, but are somehow digestible when put together. Simple, almost a Jens Lekman dialogue-form. Their new EP Pure Moods will be out March 9th–right before the big-bash down-south at SXSW.

Ever since their FREE Vampires Dreaming With Kids EP, Twin Sister have been driving me absolutely bonkers. Recently signing to Infinite Best Recordings, they now have a “Beach Boys meets Twin Peaks” trailer/teaser for the upcoming Color Your Life. A 6 track EP vinyl release on vinyl of a to be determined size.
I also found this gem while browsing their site. A 3 minute “Avalanche”(s).

Going out on a ledge, I’ll go ahead and assume that Brooklyn’s Psychobuildings was a fan of the Talking Heads (well, how could you not be?). And maybe, just maybe, the name comes from “Psycho Killer” mashed up with More Songs About Buildings and Food. Elementary, dudes. Seriously, both singles that Peter sent over (“Birds of Prey”//”Paradise”) are VERY new wave and even show flecks of afro-beat and goth influence. Look for these to release soon as a 7″ single on All Hands Electric as well as other releases on Small Black’s Cass Club.

What seems to be coming as quarterly audible treats, Ian over at Friendship Bracelet has just forged his third installment of FBC vol. 3. Per usual, the deep droning sounds compiled here seem to exercise parts of your brain you didn’t even know existed. Check out a snip here of Fluker Love’s early 90’s shoegaze inspired “Soaked” and pick up the rest at FB’s humble abode.

Here is the new video for “Violet Eyes” from our buddies in My Gold Mask; conceptually the video pairs well with the abrasive nature of the song. I can’t wait to see this band live again.
