As the track in mind’s title would suggest, “Epic Mana” is exactly that. Epic. Chris (of Tan Dollar fame) has just sent over a few tracks this morning right in time for NYE. Maybe a bold statement, but the way this tune gradually builds to crescendo is a perfect way to cap off the year. TD’s upcoming release, Your Body as a Temple, is up for digital (Life’s Blood) and analog (Mirror Universe) releases on January 4th. Plus, the release party for this album is, um, epic. So, if you’re in Irvine, CA check out this sick lineup featuring the likes of Woodsman, Young Prisms, Pure Ecstasy, Silver Pines, and Dash Jacket (playing at Acrobatics Everywhere).

The Weekly Tape Deck dudes will be out and full of fire tonight at the Lounge on Elm St. where Darktown Strutters will be playing host to touring band Twisted Wires. Two bands who very obviously are knowledgeable of their influences; many will point Joy Division, and that is recognized but too easy for a blogger to point out. Darktown Strutters seem to find much inspiration in Warsaw and sometimes even moreso in goth cornerstones Klaus Nomi and Sex Gang Children. Twisted Wires not straying far are more polished and have an almost have a trance appeal and retain a syrupy-Swans beat-fest. The show tonight is only $5 so come out and drink a vodka-whiskey-acid-rum-scotch-on-the-rox with us.

The man known under the pseudonym of Philip Seymour Hoffman sent over a new track titled “Duckfangs Tickle My Ankles” in which he stated that the lyrics are originally from a Black Moth Super Rainbow song, though Im not sure which one. In other news PSH has just released his first physical piece of music in the form of a cassette through Breakfast Of Champs with the intriguing title of the lighthouse itself is the rocket which you can purchase for four bucks here; furthermore PSH has assured us he made love to each and every copy of this release.

Adam of Borrowed Beams of Light sent us their new eponymous EP which hits a high with the track “Kids Are Great!!!” five-sixths of the way through the record; a jumping, jiving track in the key of stone-washed denim. The Virginian duo promises to be a band to watch for the future.

Here are a couple new tracks from Meth Teeth put out by the nice people overseas at Split Tapes. The three-way split contains four Meth Teeth tracks, one Male Bonding cover and a Mazes 10 min jamfest, sounds like a smörgåsbord of fun. The cassette is limited to 150 so get your hands on it quickly.

From the west coast, out-house rock veterans Ty Segall & Mikal Cronin have released their new record Reverse Shark Attack through Kill Shaman that should tide us over until that (maybe?) new Sic Alps record next year. Dare-I-say the music dragging, cocky rock n’ roll not made for the faint of heart with a pissed, sludgy inaugural track titled “I Wear Black”. Ty Segall has become the curator of all that lo-fi and picks up where Johnny Ramone left off in the best way possible. The LP is up for sale on the Kill Shaman website and as always, take the track below for a test run.

Im not going to sit here in my sitting seat and lie to you about bands, that is one thing you will count on never getting from WTD, the bands we write about always have a redeeming factor and we are not FOX News. With that said, the band Afternoon Naps have a single song that caught my ear because of the relativity of sound is has to the Unicorns. Korg and boyish murmuring intact. I cant speak for the other songs by this band and like I said I wont lie to you, and normally I wouldnt write about a band unless I was OMG SYKED about at least more than one song. This song is just worth enjoying though for two-and-a-half minutes. So do that.

It’s been a while since I’ve lost sleep in anticipation of Christmas Day goodies. As a kid, thoughts of the Transformers Dinobots and Legos were usually the culprit. This year: The Underwater Peoples Winter Review. Seriously, I ran to the computer and downloaded this before I even took a glimpse at any wrapped boxes. After some quality headphone time, we would like to share this awesome compilation over airwaves (um, internet airwaves) from cover to cover. Since our episodes are 16 tracks long (the comp being only 15), we thought it fitting to lead off with MJ’s “Human Nature”. Head to Indie-Verse for the broadcast and, when you’re done, download the entire thing free (for a limited time) at Chocolate Bobka’s.

We’ll be taking a brief couple of days to spend time with our families and old high school friends that we only see over the holidays, but I just wanted to take a sec to thank all of the peeps that have been cool to us here in our first year. Nathan and the dudes at Granada Theater, big ups to all of the shows and ads. You guys have all been super accomodating. Eric and Nick at Indie-Verse, for trusting two random bros around expensive radio equipment. Also to all of our blog friends: local, out of state, and across the pond. The list could go on and on, but anyone reading this…it’s for you. Happy Holidays, yall. 2010….
If you listened to our broadcast last week, Ryan busted my balls for never seeing this video until right now…

I’ll be keeping it “traditional” today and share another new (like 2 days ago) Christmas inspired track. Believe it or not, it snows in Texas (especially today). While I wouldn’t call this a “cold” Christmas tune, Dum Dum Girls and Crocodiles have created enough fuzz in “Merry Christmas (Please Don’t Die)” to rival the white gusty haze that’s outside right now.
