So I finally got around to listening to the new Grooms record (a month after release) who were formally the Muggabears for the greater part of the decade. This new LP Rejoicer came out on Death By Audio and is mindful of the previous decade of music, the 90’s. For being based out of Brooklyn, the band’s sound is a unique one in regard to their counterparts of BK; but of course the founder of the band Travis Johnson is from Dallas (big ups to DFDUB). Like I was saying, the band’s sound is very conscious of the pre-grunge and grunge era, with licks comparable to Sonic Youth, Beat Happening and Dino Jr. The band is making their way around the country and fortunately has a stop at the house venue the Handsome Kitten off Exposition.
