If I were a DJ, this would be the point where I would say in my low baritone “lets take it down a little bit, grab that honey that makes your loins burn and pull ‘er close for this one” and at that point I would put on a song from Magic Wands and everyone would exhale with fruition. Enough with my fantasies and on to the fantastical Magic Wands with their down-tempo songs, similar to the xx but with much more psychedelic tones. Speaking of the xx, it seems I have gotten my hands on an amazing remix they did for the aforementioned Magic Wands. Check out the songs and the band on their radical US tour supporting the noise-artists School Of Seven Bells (though no Dallas date as of yet).

The guys at Mirror Universe Tapes just sent over two brand new tracks from the ‘multi-genred’ Washed Out. Already hot off the release of a fantastic six track 12″ ep (which sold out with a quickness) on Mexican Summer, both “Luck” and “Belong” are on the listing for his High Times cassette which is available for pre-order. No numbers given, but given the usual limited release nature of cassettes, this should sell out quick. As for the 12″, looks like you’ll have to catch it in stores or settle for the digital purchase.

Joni and Rebecca, the two kids masterminding the citrus tones of Visions of Trees, have just sent me two bits of humid tropicalia from across the pond. Like fellow foliage friends, they juxtapose tribal shakes with a hauntingly beautiful vocal tracking that lulls you through a wooded path. Both “Wonders” and “My Antlers” are budding and blossoming with all of the above. For now they are in the works in recording a cassette and should be self-releasing it sometime later in the year. Keep yr ears to the ground.

Yet another great local artist to sign to one of our favorite record labels. Paul North’s project, Sunnybrook, has just recently joined forces with the great entourage of artists at Lefse. Hints were already being dropped when one of his tunes was featured in their stellar compilation. Sit tight and hang loose with the breezy “Willow Whale”, which will be included on their album set for release sometime early next year.

Probably one on the most infectious songs I’ve heard all month (plus this hilarious, dorked out, video). So much, in fact, that I just dropped some change to get 1 of 300 copies (purple marbled vinyl, oh la la!) of the Diamond Rings 7″ split with PS I Love You. Not sure that I’d pick the dude to play on my b-ball squad, but I am sure that I’ll be spinning “All Yr Songs” for months. Hurry up, get on Hype Lighter to scoop this up before P4K dubs this “best new music” and everyone (along with their mom) wants one.

Made friends with Alec of Expensive Looks recently and he has since tuned me in to his lo-fi bedroom jams. Actually, in a search for some EL goods I noticed that Dodge has even caught on in his “Under the Radar” segment for their latest ep, Ruralized (available for streaming and digital purchase). But it’s what’s to be offered on the upcoming Almost Gone that has really caught my attention. Alec sent over these two tunes to appear on that title and I’ve had them on repeat all night: “But What Was” and “Found Out”. Hang loose with these and I’ll update you later with some release info.

I was already talking about chilled beach beverages earlier this week, so it must be fate that I discover the delicious gems of Pina Chulada. Actually, their already hot “buds” from Denver, Weed Diamond, tweeted up and made me keen to these guys. For the time being, PC only have a few tunes streaming on their Myspace but they are already in the process of recording some jams for the future. Lucky for me (and you if you’re reading this), they sent over “What You Mean” and don’t mind spreading the love.

I’ll admit it, there are a few things in life that will sucker me, in the realm of music these include: organ, pretty girls, pretty girl’s voices. It just so happens the new project from ex-Los Sexareenos doll Annie Laurin, The Sunday Sinners, contains all three of these impressive traits. Taking influences from LSD-soaked bands of the 60s like Janis Joplin and the Mamas & the Papas and soul/doo-wop bands of the late 50s ; the Sunday Sinners have created a harmonic, modern day throwback to a wonderful time in music.

It seems these days the Sic Alps can do no wrong, and this new 7″ LP entitled L. Mansion contains one new song and one cover of the (underrated) Donovan song “Superlungs My Supergirl”. You can order this beautiful pink vinyl from the great vinyl masters at Slumberland. Its hard to imagine that this is their first record in a year, but they haven’t lost their touch for soulful noise-laden garage rock. Currently Sic Alps are prepping to embark on a tour with Sonic Youth and then off to the United Kingdom, Ireland, Scotland and Wales are all to be included.

John Dwyer’s influence is descending upon Eastern Europe and we now have proof in the form of Fuzzy Pets. This band is precisely the thing that makes me want to visit Russia; that vodka and drunk russians. Fuzzy Pets is not a slick, produced band, and they don’t care. They use simply a guitar and drum machine and dirty American lyrics accented with their Slavic tongues; it often seems that they just throw a slew of American slang words in a blender and say whatever regurgitates first. Information is hard to find on this band so let me be the first to say that the potential is great for this band. They’ve recently self-released their first album titled Marilyn Chambers Cocaine Slut (see what I mean?) and other than that all we have to go on is the music. So enjoy.
